In the process of Platform.sh transitioning into Upsun lays an opportunity to make innovative changes. One being enhacning the user experience and streamlining navigation while simultaneously keeping Upsun's brand personality.
In tackling the challenge of Platform.sh’s unclear mobile layout, users struggled to distinguish between categories leading to confusion about their respective contents. The white and gray background was not suffice. So what strategies can we implement in this rebranding effort to solve this issues and enhance user experience?
The team maintained the skeleton of what we had in Platform.sh to preserve its strengths, while addressing usability issues. Large part of the process involved working closely with the Director of Brand and developers brainstorming and testing layouts and functionalities, laying the groundwork for informed decision-making in later stages of development. Do we want a tab option? What if we add some constraint boxes for each category? Any pitfalls in all viewpoints?
We implemented enhancements such as clearer hierarchy through text, highlighted "overview" sections, and aligned arrows for consistency and buttons were strategically placed at the bottom for easy access within the thumb zone.
Ensuring consistency in design system variables is key allowing seamless transitions between light and dark modes for the developers—a feature that is now implemented in all Upsun webpages.
Now users are at ease in identifying respective content within categories. This solution ensures clarity and structure while maintaining Upsun’s brand identity.
